Spend the day with Ncazelo Ncube-Mlilo the pioneer and co-developer of Tree of Life to learn about the history and origins of the Tree of Life methodology and learn advanced methods in how Tree of Life can be applied in different therapeutic contexts and teams.

The ‘Tree of Life’ is a therapeutic methodology co-developed by Ncazelo Ncube and David Denborough. Although it was initially developed for vulnerable children and young people, it has been successfully used with adults who have experienced hardships and trauma to help them identify their strengths, abilities, hopes and dreams and reconnect with their roots and relationships with significant people. Practitioners around the world have found the methodology useful for working in diverse people and groups in a wide range of settings in the provision of mental health services.

The training will cover the following topics

  • Foundations and the History of the Tree of Life Narrative methodology

  • Introduction to the Imbeleko Approach to Therapeutic Practice

  • Principles of Narrative Therapy

  • Second Story Development

  • The Four Parts of the Tree of Life Methodology

  • Practical Exercises Exploring your own Tree of Life

This is a 7 -hour training that covers the history and foundations of Tree of life and introduces practitioners to the four parts of the Tree of life narrative methodology. Participants will be introduced the narrative practice assumptions that inform the methodology. Ncazelo will also share her “Imbeleko” work to aid participants in applying the model with cultural sensitivity. Participants will have an opportunity to practice how to contribute to rich story development.
